Intersection DesignSwept Path plays an important role on intersection design. It is used to determine the actual size of an intersection and plays an important role when setting up the Intersection "legs". Safety is always the main factor in any traffic design project, and when setting up an intersection the designer will look to elliminate any possible conflict due to a poor design.
Designing Intersection gets more difficult due to the fact that there are a lot of different vehicles. All those vehicles come with their own measurements and therefore with their own Swept Path. To properly design an intersection the designer needs to know what vehicles will drive on the intersection. Now an intersection design does not have to be tested with all the vehicles, but mainly with the biggest vehicle expected to use the intersection. A proper design will then reduce the possibilities of accidents to a minmum. |
